waterproof watch

Waterproof vs. Splashproof: What is the difference?

You might have read the terms waterproof watch, water-resistant watch, and splashproof watch written on your wristwatches. While you have a certain degree of understanding about what these terms mean, have you ever really considered reading the actual manual that comes with your wristwatch to better understand them?

Waterproof, water-resistant, and splashproof are three different things. You have to understand them correctly so you would know how much water your wristwatch can handle. A waterproof watch means that it is not penetrable by water. Water-resistant watch means the ability of the watch to stand a water pressure and will depend upon the water depth. A splash proof watch however, can only stand splashes of water to a certain degree. Like when you are washing your hands or when working in the kitchen.
Before waterproof and water-resistant were separate terms used by various watch companies but now, both terms are considered the same because according to experts, there is no such thing as a waterproof watch, they only have different degrees of water resistance.
